Presentation Summaries

Dr. Garcia-Reyero Vinas will present the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s updated list of New Approach Methods (NAMs), highlighting its role in advancing chemical safety and reducing animal testing under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). EPA is also introducing a process for researchers, companies, and other stakeholders to nominate NAMs for consideration in chemical assessments. The webinar will emphasize EPA’s ongoing commitment to replacing the use of animal testing.

Dr. Luz will provide an overview of the Rethinking Carcinogenicity Assessment for Agrochemicals Project (ReCAAP) weight of evidence framework for assessing the need for carcinogenicity studies for chemicals being assessed under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). Unlike other regulatory frameworks, the TSCA Existing Chemicals Program does not mandate toxicity testing. However, TSCA does require EPA to consider all available toxicological information and make decisions based on the best available science. This webinar will explore how carcinogenicity can be assessed under TSCA in the absence of two-year rodent carcinogenicity studies, including real-world examples of ReCAAP application.
